Who this course is for

• Civil construction, utilities, drainage, plumbing and infrastructure workers involved in vacuum excavation work.
• Vacuum truck and excavation support workers who need a single-unit Statement of Attainment.
• Employers seeking targeted training for workers who conduct vacuum excavation under workplace supervision.

What participants will learn

• Obtain and confirm work requirements, permits, approvals and site information.
• Identify hazards, environmental issues, service locations, exclusion zones and traffic or public interface controls.
• Complete pre-start checks, position equipment, communicate with others and conduct vacuum excavation safely.
• Shut down, clean up, manage waste or disposal documentation and complete required records.

Entry requirements and suitability

• Students must be able to safely participate in operational and practical tasks.
• Access to suitable vacuum excavation equipment, PPE and a safe work or assessment environment is required.
• The unit does not by itself grant a statutory licence or authority to perform work outside workplace requirements.

Course Delivery

Delivered as a one-day face-to-face workshop. Training may be conducted at a client workplace or an InPipe Training facility, subject to site suitability, equipment availability and safety requirements. Assessment is competency-based and includes theory tasks and practical evidence.

Assessment requirements

• Practical evidence must cover vacuum excavation on at least three occasions, including hydro excavation and air excavation.
• Students must demonstrate safe work preparation, pre-operational checks, communication, exclusion zones, equipment operation and completion activities.
• Where all assessment evidence cannot be captured during the workshop, additional workplace evidence may be required before competency can be finalised.
